Classics Club Spin!
20 books, 1 spin to decide which classic book I’ll be reading next.
In my previous Classic Club Post in the 12th of April I told you about The Classics Club Spin Challenge. In a nutshell I was to post a list of 20 books that I’ve still yet to read from my 50+ Books in Five Years list. We would then be given a number and that would our next book!
On Sunday the 18th of April 2021, The Classics Club sent us a randomly drawn number and the challenge is to read whichever book falls under that number before the end of May. The number was 11 and therefore
My Spin List book for the Classics Club is –
Mrs Dalloway by Virginia Woolf
How did I feel about this one – Very happy indeed. I’ve read To the Lighthouse and Orlando in the past and Mrs Dalloway has been on my list of want to reads for a long time. To celebrate I treated myself to an absolutely gorgeous Penguin Clothbound Classics edition and as I was unable to get out to my local bookshop I ordered a copy via Hive.co.uk. The aim is to read it by the end of May. I have quite a massive reading pile for this month and next so it will be a challenge to fit it in but I’m really looking forward to reading it. Why not join me? I’ll be back with my thoughts before May 31st 2021!

‘One of the most moving, revolutionary artworks of the twentieth century’ Michael Cunningham
Clarissa Dalloway, elegant and vivacious, is preparing for a party and remembering those she once loved. In another part of London, Septimus Warren Smith is suffering from shell-shock and on the brink of madness. Smith’s day interweaves with that of Clarissa and her friends, their lives converging as the party reaches its glittering climax. Virginia Woolf’s masterly novel, in which she perfected the interior monologue, brings past, present and future together on one momentous day in June 1923.
