Pizazz VS The New Kid by Sophy Henn

Today I’d like to give a shout out to book two in the brilliant Pizazz series from Sophy Henn.

The sassiest superhero in town is BACK

Synopsis

BEING A SUPERHERO IS THE BEST THING EVER, RIGHT? WRONG!

HELLO! My name is PIZAZZ and I’m a superhero… You probably think that’s really AWESOME, and while it can be, it’s also REEEEEEEEAAALLLLY annoying.

I guess it was sort of going OK (I say, “sort of” – I still have to wear a silly cape and save the world all the time) until this NEW KID showed up, and started WOWING everyone with their super powers. Yep, SUPER POWERS – just what this town needs, another super… Who just happens to have the coolest name ever: Jett.

And now, because of Serena and her gang of Populars, I have to compete against Jett in an almighty and ultimate SUPER-OFF. But it’s fine, I mean, even if I lose, there’s space for two SUPERS in this school, isn’t there?!

Pizazz Vs the New Kid by Sophy Henn is available now in paperback, ebook and on Audiobook.
My thoughts

This is glorious and absolutely perfect for young readers aged 7 and above. The illustrations are fun and engaging, carrying the story along with excellent text. Pizazz is nearly nine and a half. She struggles with all the same problems as any young nine-year-old and also a few extras – like being a super. Being a super isn’t as much fun and you would think especially when you come from a very long line of very uncool supers And have the most annoying little sister in the world. Now to top it all a new (and very cool) super, by the name of Jett, has just arrived at school and the populars (led by School Princess, Serena) are making Pizazz’s life a misery.

Pizazz begins to experience feelings she’s never encountered before, feelings that leave her feeling upset and angry. What she’s really like is to be friends with Jett but the Populars turn them against each other as they compete to discover who is the best Super. A story about bullies, friendship, working together and having the courage to be yourself no matter what anyone else thinks. With a good dose of humour and fast moving storyline this will keep even the most reluctant of readers glued to it’s pages.

Thank you so much to the wonderful team at Simon & Schuster for sending me a review copy. I’m absolutely loving this quirky, fun series from Sophy Henn and I very much look forward to book 3.

A sneak peek at those awesome illustrations.
