Before I Say I Do by Vicki Bradley

Today I’m delighted to be hosting the final day of blog tour for Before I Say I Do by Vicki Bradley.

Synopsis

Her dream wedding is about to become her worst nightmare

Julia is nervous and it’s not just because she’s about to get married. There’s a lot that her soon- to-be husband, Mark, doesn’t know – and she is determined to keep it that way.

As she walks down the aisle, spotting Mark is his tailored suit, she knows she is taking her first steps to happiness- her past can’t catch her now. He turns to face her…

But it isn’t Mark in the beautiful suit – it’s his best man.
Because Mark is missing.
And Julia’s past is closer than she thinks.

My thoughts

Oh my, what a thriller! This was such an exciting, engaging read that I literally read it in one sitting. I recommend you snuggle up with this and let yourself become fully immersed in this fanastic debut from Vicki Bradley.

The story begins with a bride on her wedding day. Julia Talbot is about to marry the man of her dreams and cannot be happier that her day has come and finally the happy ever after she always dreamed of. Everything is perfect and her past is finally firmly where it belongs – in the past. Yet even as we watch the bride preparing to meet her groom for the ceremony there is sense of apprehension, a taught energy that makes us feel that something isn’t quite right. And of course it isn’t. As Julia arrives for the ceremony it appears that the groom is missing.

Pretty soon her dream wedding becomes a living nightmare as events from twenty years ago come back to haunt Julia, events that forced her to leave everything behind and change her name. Nobody knows the person she really is except for her bridesmaid and best friend Lucy Webb… or so she thinks.

This is a brilliantly paced debut that is full of twists and turns. My idea of where things were going changed frequently throughout the book and I simply could not put it down as I just had to find out what was happening. It’s a pretty darn strong debut and I can see why it has done so well in writing competitions. I loved the investigating duo and I do hope we see more from Loxton and Kowalski. The author is on a career break from the Metropolitan Police Service to concentrate on her writing and I feel that their loss is definietly the book worlds gain. Her characters feel real and her plot well thought out and gives you plenty to think about. I absolutely loved it. It was a fantastic piece of escapism. I thoroughly recommend this sharp, exciting thriller.

My thanks go to Anne Cater for inviting me to take part in this blog tour and to Simon & Schuster for sending me a review copy. I can honestly say I loved it and look forward to reading more from Vicki.
