A Wedding at the Beach Hut by Veronica Henry

Today I am delighted to be hosting the blog tour for A Wedding at the Beach Hut by Veronica Henry

Synopsis

The Queen of the ultimate feel-good summer read, Veronica Henry, returns to the glorious summer setting of her bestselling beach hut books for her new page-turning family drama. A lush and inviting summer read which will transport readers to the Devon coastline for a wedding to remember.

Robyn and Jake are planning their dream wedding at the family beach hut. Just their favourite people, a picnic on the sand and dancing barefoot until sunset: simple, stylish, special.

But Robyn can’t stop thinking about her birth mother, or the box she left when she gave Robyn up for adoption. Is now the right time to open it and discover the truth – or will she break the hearts of the people she loves most?

Shelia and Mick, Robyn’s parents, also feel the time is right for change. But it’s going to take courage to start the new life they want for themselves.

And far away, Emily is still haunted by the life-changing decision she made one summer, thirty years ago. What could lead a mother to relinquish her child?

As the big day approaches, can everyone let go of the past and step into a bright new future?

My thoughts

This was such a lovely, refreshing read. I was completely swept away to lovely Devon and could almost taste the salt in the air and feel the breeze on my face. Veronica is obviously an old-hand at writing these novels but I can honestly say that I felt like I was watching old friends as the story took me in and held me close.

All the characters are fabulous. Warm, real and relatable and each with their own problems, hopes and dreams – I really cared about them and wanted a happy ending for each and every one of them. I think my favourite was Gwen. She was such an engaging character and oh how I envied her gorgeous flat and independent lifestyle… yet as with each of the characters she carried a sadness of her own. Sometimes you need to know there is a happy ending ahead and I think novels such as this fill an important and much needed dose of that these days.

I loved the beach hut or ‘Shedquarters’ as it is known. It is place of hope, love and where all things come together. It was the perfect setting for this story and had as much impact as the greatest of mansions.

This is a book that sweeps you up into the lives of each of the characters. As with real life there are regrets, difficult and at times life-changing decisions to be made but ultimately it is a happy tale filled with love, hope and relationships that you know will stand the test of times. I finished it feeling as warm as sunshine and it was a delightful piece of pure escapism. A perfect read come rain or shine.

Many, many thanks to the lovely Anne Cater for inviting me to take part in this blog tour and to the lovely team at Orion for providing me with an early review copy.
